A Timaru home ticks all the boxes
Skillful use of shapes and angles has created a contemporary house that won’t date quickly.
The main two-storey section has a high-pitched roof and large chimney and double-height windows that make a style statement at the back. Cedar-clad extensions to either side create a striking contrast to the Oamaru stone.
A single-storey wing attached to this area creates an L-shaped home that wraps around a sunny courtyard with swimming pool.
Oamaru stone block is also used inside – the large chimney in the ground-floor living room and a full-length wall in the hallway are beautiful fixtures. The hall also features wide-plank timber flooring and a floating wooden-slab staircase.
The entertaining areas and the master suite in the wing overlook the pool.
Designed entirely for the children, the upstairs part of the house has a media lounge, a large area for homework and a mezzanine space that looks into the double-height living room. White interior walls offset the owners‘ art collection but grey textured tiles in the bathrooms and a gorgeous turquoise glass splashback in the kitchen add visual interest.
