Temuka’s winning mix of modern design and old-fashioned country comfort
Oamaru stone walls, corrugated iron roof. Country scenes in stained glass windows and a proper farm-style kitchen – let’s kick off our wellies and tuck into the scones.
Two wings connected by a gallery flank the central timber deck of this warm hospitable home constructed by Wilson Building. One contains three bedrooms (including master with walk-in wardrobe and en-suite), shower, separate loo and storeroom. The living wing comprises a sitting room with huge arched window, dining room, family room, kitchen, laundry, separate toilet and shower, upstairs bedroom, storeroom and double garage.
Chalk-white joinery plays against Black Suede granite counter tops in the big country kitchen where a cupboard with hot water supply is dedicated to tea and coffee making, and another contains a computer station. The rangehood’s enclosed in a custom-made unit: a pull-out wood box feeds a built-in Stanley coal range that can run a radiator; and it all revolves around a hefty island table.
The scullery is fully armed for food prep and baking: steriliser, macrocarpa shelves, storage bins, large fridge/freezer, wall oven and LightSpeed oven microwave combination.
Earth-coloured carpet and lavish quantities of timber offset the home’s creamy Oamaru stone and painted off-white walls. The long roofed terraces available from bedrooms and living rooms feature hardwood posts and beams, macrocarpa rafters and tougue and groove macrocarpa soffits.
The house looks as warm as toast. Numerous sheltered outdoor areas, including the little kitchen terrace and two gas fireplaces, a heat pump, under floor heating and that clever Stanley range ensure it really is.
