Designed and built pre-1980, this Timaru home had good bones but needed a little muscle to bring it into the 21st century. The contemporary kitchen, now the heart of the spacious open-plan living area, is a perfect example.
As you enter the home, this modern space catches the eye. The beautifully appointed food hub is an entertainer’s dream, as improved indoor-outdoor flow provides easy access to new and existing outdoor living spaces.
A second large deck has been added, along with a more secluded alfresco space off the extended master bedroom. The stunning new en-suite and walk-in wardrobe create an everyday retreat. Rural charm is a hallmark of the interior and effort has been made not to burn bridges with the original abode: bridge beams were extracted from the garden and erected along the front of the house. Polished rimu floors have been crafted from wood from a raspberry farm that was on the property in days gone by.

The exterior is now clad in a combination of schist, cedar weatherboard and Sto Plaster System. Wooden window joinery was removed, stripped, restored and
refurbished locally. Already expansive garaging has been extended to house the owner’s vehicle collection. The adjoining rooms have been reconfigured to enhance flow to the rest of the home. Remaining spaces were left in place and fully refurbished.
Demolish, rebuild or renovate? It wasn’t an easy choice for the owners, who’ve lived here for 14 years. Now that their light, luxurious and spacious home is complete, they’ll never look back. “We wake up every day feeling like we are on holiday,” they say.
